Julie Butler has always been fascinated by the process of manipulating materials, but none more so than clay. This versatile medium challenges her to push her creative boundaries, and in return, it pushes back. Julie fires her sculptures in a large gas kiln, using reduction techniques and applying glazes that have evolved over the past thirty years through extensive experimentation.
Over the years, Julie has earned teaching qualifications and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, both of which have influenced her artistic practice. Her work is also deeply shaped by her role as a mother. The growth and strength of her two daughters have been a significant source of inspiration, with her sculptures often reflecting their journey and the environment around them.
